Since the musically pioneering days of Minton’s 52nd St club in New York in the 50s, where jazz legends like Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis were made and inspired, improvisation has remained an important part of musical progression. In keeping with this tradition 20for7 combine their accumulated musical passion with the modern rhythms, melodies, timbre and beats from the current generation of house music. 20for7 perform a dynamic blend of upfront house rhythms with improvised jazz and funk related melodies, seamlessly blending with in-house DJs and live musicians drawing comparisons to the Nuyorican Soul collective that was put together by house legends, Kenny Dope and Louie Vega. The result is a performance that is completely entwined with the dance floor. The replacement of the drum kit with Basek’s beats gives 20for7 a new medium with which to improvise their way through scales and moods.
