About j is a rock, blues, and funk trio from Perth WA. We originally started the band in a duo form with our guitarist/frontman (Jackson) and our drummer (Juliana) playing early versions of our tracks in the high school band room in a little back area. After graduation and jamming as a duo for a while, we realized we needed an extra member to give our songs a bit more substance and lay the foundation. After this, we found our bassist (daniel) on the app “bandmix” which in essence is tinder for musicians, and in this case, we found our match. After getting him in the band we trained him up on the bass parts and got him comfortable playing the band’s tracks with a bit of bass magic to complement them. After getting our bassist settled in, we officially formed the band and registered the name “About J” and started forming a track/set list of originals we wanted to record and play live. We then had the opportunity to play a range of gigs via the awesome help of Josh Sweetman who organized and managed all the venues that we were able to play at including many local ones such as Mojo’s, Rosemount Hotel, Clancy’s fish pub Fremantle and sonar room and we’ve had the experience to play among some awesome local artists at these gigs such as The Gremlins, Catherine Traicos, Ben Lunt, Tarot and plenty of others. We since have released a new ep called “horizon” which is the combination of a lot of learning, dedication, hard work, and putting down years of what was on paper into the studio. The songs follow a lot of personal experiences of the band members and speak on topics such as heartache, reflection, and redemption within the lyrical songs. Furthermore, we also have a couple of instrumental tracks on there called “The watcher” and “Sweet Disdain” which are a bit funky and are a bit of a contrast from the lyrics behind the other songs. Although it is only our first ep, we are really happy to have some music out that our fans and the world can enjoy.
