Acid Springfield is the new project from Melbourne creative Ben Mackie, who returned home in 2021 after living in Brooklyn, NY for the past 8 years. In his time abroad Mackie performed all over North America; at SXSW, the Newport Folk Festival, Northside Festival, Canadian Music Week, and CMJ Music Marathon.

Recorded DIY in an apartment in Bushwick, Acid Springfield’s debut album A Shadow Softly Flickers Inside Plato’s Cave is a kaleidoscopic allegory of the internet age, percolating in a murky wash of blown-out guitars, faulty drum machines, and slinking modular gremlins.

Amidst the haze sits In a Forest, a track that melds multiple themes of apocalyptia, conspiracy and paranoia from across the record, and contains its central message: If we are indeed approaching the Great Filter, our own likely demise - help is not coming from elsewhere. We have to choose to either remain comfortably in our unreality, watching the shadows softly flicker, or to venture outside the cave.
