Ali Hughes is a Papua New Guinea-Australian singer/songwriter. She has dedicated her life to her passion for writing and playing music. A wanderer and an experienced nomad, she has lived in eight different countries and draws a worldly musical sound to her musical compositions. At a young age, she began to teach herself how to play guitar and write songs. When asked about what genre she thinks her music belongs, she describes it “like skin colour. So many different types but all coming from the same place. We're all the same on the inside”. With such a liberal mentality towards her music, there are a diverse variety of influences that shape her sound. These include Tracy Chapman, Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, Jack Johnson, D’angelo and many more. Settling in Melbourne currently, Ali has formed a new band that is eager to record an all-original studio album and hopefully tour domestically. Ali Hughes is a self-taught musician who grew up travelling the world, living in Africa, Asia, India and the Pacific Islands. Ali, who is part Papua New Guinean, part Australian started writing songs at just 11 years of age. Now living in Australia she has spent time refining her songwriting and has been performing at numerous venues around Melbourne. Soulful, cultural, diverse and talented artist, Ali creates music that is unique. She fuses her folk, soul, pop, & rnb, influences with original acoustic sounds.
