Alice Terry sounds like she’s had three husbands and killed them all. Beginning her performing life singing classical, jazz and music theatre, she was beckoned by Blues when she fronted her first touring Blues Band at the tender age of 17. She found early success performing at Narooma Blues, Thredbo Blues and Moruya Jazz Festivals – at which she held her own with the vocal veterans in the game. It took ten years between those early shows and the release of her debut album, during which she became a renowned vocalist in Sydney - Nominated for NLMAs NSW Live Vocalist of the year. Terrys debut single Emotion, released July 2018, went to number one on the iTunes blues charts within hours, and the sold out launches that followed proved why Terry has been nicknamed ‘Sydney’s FirstLady of Blues’. Terry’s debut album ‘The Fear of...’ stunned audiences with its lyrical wit, depth of heart, and timeless musicality. ‘The Fear of...’ achieved number 3 on the ITunes blues charts though the album itself cannot be categorised as just blues. Terry sits somewhere between the country sensibilities of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, the folk of The Waifs, the soulful blues of Bonnie Raitt, and timeless jazz balladeers. Her spirited performances and clever writing draws die-hard fans that never leave. Many lifers have found Terry whilst she was supporting an impressive cohort of both local and international headliners. Allen Stone; Beth Hart; St Paul & the Broken Bones; Thirsty Merc; Matt Corby; Dyson, Stringer, Cloher and The Waifs, and festival appearances at: Sydney Festival Main Stage & Woodford Folk to name a few. According to Grammy nominee Beth Hart, Alice Terry is “The real deal”. She has the ability to effortlessly combine the best parts of blues, folk, jazz and country to create this music which is both sexy and heartbreaking at the same time. Onstage, Terry is as witty and engaging as she is mournful and heartfelt. Her tongue is firmly planted in her cheek delivering sassy one-liners but will never fail to leave a tear in your eye after brutally examining her life, psyche and the human condition. Miss Alice Terry has also provided the backbone to such dramatic pieces as ‘Tiger Country’ by Jonathan Gavin, an enigmatic play about the stark violence in rural Australia that shocked and shredded audiences underpinned by Terry’s score and live performance. Prior to covid, she toured Australia and New Zealand with Matt Corby, including singing backing vocals for the infamous duet with Tina Arena at ‘Splendour in the Grass' 2019. “Alice Terry is an undeniable combination of old school chanteuse and the grit of Janis Joplin. Her songs are emotional without being cloying, and pair equal measures regret and lament, with cheek and sass. If the swoops and croons are anything to go by, Terry is a singer equally comfortable howling at the moon for the hell of it as she is walking the line of soul-wrenching honesty.” - The Music
