ARYA KAY is a Melbourne singer songwriter trying her best to avoid being put into a single box. Multiple aspects of her personality and background shine through her pop songs, which is just the way she likes it. Intertwined harmonies, a nod to her studies of classical music through university. Hints of a musical theatre streak in the melodies give away her stage secrets. And an obvious obsession with gospel music, Motown and soul weaves itself into the backdrop. Her first release ‘Molasses’ is a moody battlecry for all who have been hurt in long tangled relationships, drenched in haunting harmonies. But her second track 'Part Lost Part Found' (to be released late November) has an upbeat modern Motown vibe with tongue in cheek lyrics poking fun at her millennial existence. Despite the first two tracks she’s created in the studio being worlds apart in some ways, you’ll definitely get thoughtful pop with a hint of soul and interesting vocal layers in both.
