Audrey Mae is an upcoming Melbourne artist who has taken inspiration from the likes of Banks, Billie Eilish, Charli XcX and many more. Audrey has a certain style, and although she has a bubbly personality, she writes her lyrics as though in a therapy session. The outcome is generally sassy and dejected words directed toward her inner self or those who have burnt her. Growing up in small town, Audrey always aspired to entertain. Surrounded by a family full of musical people, she began singing at her family Christmases as young as 5, although her first musical endeavour was drums. She began learning because she loved the drummer from ‘the school of rock’. Audrey loved singing from a young age and her favourite artists were Vanessa Amorosi and Shania Twain. She developed a small country twang in her voice which helps her stand out to this day. It was at the age of 17 Audrey realised she wanted to pursue a career in the music industry. Audrey started performing around her home town doing gigs, when she was chosen to be the support act for Andrew Wishart (X Factor finalist) and his band at the age of 18. Andrew was so impressed with her talents he invited her on stage to do a duet. In 2015 Audrey moved to Melbourne, auditioned for the Australian Institute of Music, and began musical studies. Audrey was thrown in the deep end and put everything into understanding the musical language and four years later gained her Bachelor of Contemporary Performance. Audrey is currently working on several singles and an EP. She has released one single called ‘Jeffrey’ in which she explores the feelings of frustration and betrayal from a partner. Comeherefloyd.com expressed that “The inquisitive mind and active imagination of Audrey Mae’s song writing is palpably futuristic, and cinematic.” They also suggest that “A romp in her emotions, is a death sentence in the penitentiary of grim happiness.”
