Backseat Passenger is a Gadigal-based songwriter and producer, of Ngāti Kahungunu descent (Aotearoa - New Zealand). His long-term 'Archival - Revival' project reanimates his archived analog 4 track recordings. A creative series in which vintage demos are digitised, separated and reimagined with new sounds, instruments and arrangements blending with the original tracks — a meeting place where Backseat Passenger’s present practice dialogues with his younger self. Rooted in a hybrid production approach that blends vintage analog warmth with contemporary digital techniques, Backseat Passenger draws on 1980s post punk and new wave influences to craft moody, atmospheric songs with an underlying groove. The project’s central ambition: to preserve the raw immediacy of early tape captures while elevating them with careful modern production.
