In 2017 on a bus in the Atacama Desert, Bakaari's Tim Baker had an epiphany. He was done with music and the industry, disheartened by the gradual disintegration of his previous band and years worth of unrealised musical ideas. A year later, dabbling on Garageband each morning as a distraction from a terminal illness in the family, Bakaari was born with a singlular goal, to be prolific. The first EP "The Day We Find Out" released in 2020 was a long, solitary and trying process of tying off old ideas. A new creative process emerged however, which coupled with the numbness of loss and reduced work hours (Covid) culminated an outpouring of creativity. The latest single "Hometown" is the first offering from these sessions. It attempts to capture the feelings of a visit home (Brisbane), the loss, regret and ultimately optimism that seem to rush through the car window on the back of the dense, jacaranda-filled breeze while cruising the back streets of Brisbane.
