Bio history

Version 1activeAug 22, 2026, 1:07 AM
Distrosub

In the new world of Banawurun exists a vast spectrum of roots, rock, soul and country music where the bombast meets the beautiful and hard hitting lyrics meet stories of Indigenous Australia. Soul is the teacher, rock’n’roll is the preacher and the lesson is loud and clear. Banawurun (meaning “Running Water” in Gu Gu Yelanji language) first emerged from the dust in 2006 and have since become one of Australia’s most loved Indigenous touring acts. With Matabele Zimbabwean woman Trevelyn Brady and Gu Gu Yelanji/Birra Gubba man Troy Brady sharing vocal and song writing duties, the band’s compelling blend of musical influences sees them take the baton from iconic acts like Warumpi Band and Yothu Yindi to cement their place in Australian rock history. Festivals Played: East Coast Blues’n’Roots Festival (07), Woodford Folk Festival (06-09), Dreaming Festival (05-08), NAIDOC Awards (07, 08), Queensland Music Festival (07), Australian International Music Market (07), “Sorry Day” Parliament
