David Stark AKA Beatbutcha hails from a small dusty town in Queensland, Australia. He also has strong ties to Tasmania where he lived for 11 years. He recently relocated to Melbourne. David was a butcher for 15 years (hence the name) but has now given up the meat trade, for the beat trade. He started producing music on his computer about 6 years ago when a friend gave him a copy of Fruity Loops. He spent a few months teaching himself the program to a point where he could lay down full tracks. “Learning is ongoing 24/7. I still don't know everything about the program, there is something to learn on it all the time.” David said. After becoming confident with Fruity Loops he did a course in Propellorhead's Reason, and now creates his works with this program. He credits his influences as Groove Armada, Da La Soul, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Square Pusher, Massive Attack, Malcom McLaren, Rennie Pilgrem, Kraftwork, and Melbourne DJ Phil K.
