Before the King is a shaggy-haired group of four musicians from Eora, making music and drawing their inspiration from the golden age of early ‘00s indie rock bands like The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, and Kings of Leon. Their ethos is all about embracing a fun, carefree vibe with a DIY approach, often found scouring Vinnies and other op-shops for their loose-fitting outfits and unique stage decor. Their aesthetic is grungy, gritty, and unapologetically messy - but infused with a touch of elegance, and charm they call “op-shop class”. But despite the rawness of their image, Before the King is a ‘found family’, promoting loving relationships and positive masculinity and priding themselves on being inclusive, welcoming, and giving back to their community.
