Beginner's Luck is about songs with greyish to semi-dark stories. Tales of late realisations, rude awakenings, crab-toed culpability and the placid contortions of fate. If there are rainbows here, they are purely coincidental. All these grim tidings wrapped in a cellophane of bright acoustic guitars, tablas, bass and drums. It's life's curveballs preserved in lemon jello. Or something like that.
