BELLA DEER, the Wadawurrung -based artist renowned for her powerful voice and evocative lyrics, released her highly anticipated debut EP, Age of Alchemy, on November 15. Dubbed the “local vocal viking” by Forte Magazine, BELLA DEER has quickly made waves with her recent indie-rock single, Shipwreck Coast, which climbed into the top 3 on the regional AMRAP charts. Age of Alchemy is a journey through transformation, much like the alchemical process of turning base metals into gold. Here, instead of metals, Bella Deer transforms raw, often difficult emotions—heartache, self-doubt, societal disillusionment—into music that uplifts and empowers. The title speaks to an era where emotions, like lead, often weigh us down. It is an invitation for listeners to look within, confront their own fears and insecurities, and ultimately turn them into something meaningful. It’s about embracing the messy, painful parts of life and finding a way to make peace with them. “This EP has been a huge learning process. I finally feel confident in my songwriting abilities,” says Bella. “As a group, we’ve levelled up our recording, mixing and producing skills to become a more self-sufficient band in the future.” Last year BELLA DEER's track 'Care Too Much' garnered significant attention as a top 40 finalist in the prestigious APRA AMCOS Vanda and Young Global Songwriting Competition. Care Too Much (co-written and produced by Joel Quartermain of Eskimo Joe) was a finalist and received an Honourable Mention in the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) in the Adult Contemporary section based in Nashville, TN. This recognition firmly placed BELLA DEER in the company of other esteemed Australian songwriters. BELLA DEER has had two recent overseas performances, in Seoul, South Korea and in late August 2024 BELLA DEER appeared at the long running Ferrara International Buskers Festival, in Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
