Absurdist Art Rap? It’s hard to define Big Ass Fish, which started as a Melbourne-based Bedroom Project, but this is the closest we can get. Playfully self-aware, they bring a youthful exuberance to fill a gap that the Aussie Hip-Hop scene has been missing for a long time. With Voidhood’s dark production, and lyricists 2B and glu spitting lines like “Kill a white boy and I stole his toothpaste” and “glu never gonna flop like My Sharona”, it’s so absurdly disingenuous it becomes genuine. The group met in high school, back in Canberra, before moving to Melbourne. 2B and glu have established careers as actors (starring in ‘Neighbours’ and ‘Bloom’) before turning to rap. Voidhood operates as an experimental artist/producer, releasing his solo EP ‘Sleeping With the Fishes’ in 2018. Together, they are Big Ass Fish.
