Birdcage are a four-piece instrumental surf rock band from Melbourne, Australia. Deriving influence from seminal surf bands of the 1960's, and the paranoia of the cold war era, Birdcage take up these strands of cultural influence, reinterpreting the style with a respect to the muscular posturing of the arms race. Imagine sun bleached bliss on a pacific atoll, laughing and barbecuing to the sounds of bombers roaring overhead and the light show of nuclear testing on the horizon. Driving and heavy, and at times wistful and longing, Birdcage pay homage to the Californian promise of fun in the sun, under threat of annihilation.
