BRANDO RISING is the brainchild of two veterans from the Australian indie rock scene: Former Sydney-based singer/actor Ripley Hood, also a recognisable face from theatre, television and movie screens, and vocalist for popular 80’s Sydney rock acts Mushroom Planet and Funhouse, and currently fronting The Green Spiders (3/4 of legendary Australian band, Lime Spiders). And guitarist Kelly Hewson, former independent record company head and axeman for some of Adelaide’s most infamous 80’s cult outfits such as Gun Control (prominently featured in the recent award-winning documentary “Rock In A Hard Place”), Hot Tomatoes and The Skunks, as well as Melbourne’s longest running premier punk act, Glen & The Peanut Buttermen. Fusing a balance of diversely dynamic vocals and wild guitar riffing, there is the machine-like rhythm section work of long-time Melbourne double act, drummer Steve Whan and bassist Peter Le Chapelain. As a live band they bring together a unique sound, coupled with a highly energetic and theatrical stage show. The band’s influences are many and varied, and include The Damned, Dead Boys, Bauhaus, The Stooges, MC5, Magazine, Fear, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Dead Kennedys, Joy Division, Rage Against The Machine, Faith No More, Sex Pistols, The Pixies, etc.
