Broken River is a new project driven by Melbourne singer-songwriter Ben Stolz. The act alternates as a solo performer or as a five piece which includes Dave Kleynjans (drums), Ryan Adamson (bass), Dave Rogers (guitars) and Andy Ferguson (keyboard). After his previous band broke up Ben embarked on a new direction. Fast forward 12 months and he had written and demoed close to 50 songs. From these sessions Broken River was born. It became a family affair when brother Richard (a producer) recorded the songs at Woodstock Studios. The songs reflect a cross section of Ben's musical influences. There are moments of 1960s melancholy with a salute to Phil Spector and there are bleak and paranoid lyrics inspired by post-punk bands like The Cure. During these writing sessions Ben also co-wrote the song "Mind Waltz" and won the Unsigned Category at the Nashville Songwriting Competition which was co-judged by Robert Smith.
