Broken Spires is the solo electronic project of Sam Hopgood. At once organic and artificial, dark and light, Broken Spires transcends traditional electronic music boundaries to create powerful and original compositions. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Sam’s musical education began on the piano and violin before the call of 80s hair metal and wild solos pulled him towards the guitar. Always passionate about rhythms and percussion, he saved his part-time supermarket wages until he could afford his first drum kit. Years of playing covers in high school rock bands ended up with the formation of the three piece original hard rock band, Pigment, in which he played drums for 15 years. Sam’s first glimpse into the world of electronic music and DJing came in the mid 90s when a friend took him to the docks of Melbourne and a giant warehouse filled with pounding beats, frantic dancing and laser lights. Immediately inspired, he began to delve into this new musical and cultural world. A
