Although a fan of hip hop for years, Spyda only began to write in early 2006 as part of a project with beat maker and amateur producer, Cynical. Over two years, both Spyda and Cynical made tracks in Cynical's back shed studio and recorded in a spare bedroom of his house. At the time of recording an EP, the only equipment used was a laptop, studio microphone, M-Box, Pro-tools, Reason, and a pair of speakers. No monitors were used or any other studio equipment. The result was a great little EP that was handed to friends. Receiving good feedback from many, Spyda and Cynical embarked on creating a full length album. Live shows had still not been considered, which seems odd when preparing the release of an album. Spyda leans more towards intelligent lyrical writing and intreresting story telling backed by jazzy beats or darker, atmospheric beats rather than the revered Aussie BBQ hip hop that is the flavour in the festivals.
