Bryce Huntington “Bryce In Space” Musician, multi-instrumentalist, writer, and composer. Influences: Gola, Benson, Grapelli, McCartney, Page, Zappa. Bryce was born in Bondi Junction, Sydney and moved to Thredbo with his Mother and brother when he was 5, attending Jindabyne public school and completing grade 3 and 4. In these 2 years he joined the Thredbo Mighty Mites Ski Team and also bought his first guitar. “I hounded our next door neighbour to teach me how to play guitar after hearing Paul McCartney and the Wings, Band on the Run”. Bryce moved to Sun Valley, Idaho when he was 8 and was immediately accepted onto the American ski team as an intermediate, climbing quickly to expert, and aiming for the Olympics. During 5th grade, Bryce was one of the very few chosen to learn violin and join the school orchestra. “I’d take the charts home and practice them on my guitar. I suppose that’s why I never really excelled on my violin”. At 15, Bryce returned to Australia, unable to ski due to 2 broken legs, and lived in Townsville for 2 years. He got a band together with some friends, Temporary Alliance, and they won a band competition at the Townsville Sound Shelter against 15 other bands. He completed his school certificate, moved to Sydney, and enrolled into the Conservatorium of Music. Bryce joined a few garage bands and eventually formed a Rock-A-Billy band called The Cruisers, playing 50’s and 60’s greatest hits. A few years later he joined Buddy and the Birddogs. Both bands recorded and toured extensively. Bryce joined the house Band at South Sydney Junior Leagues Club and played guitar there for 15 years, sight reading charts. He joined The Tres Mambo Latin Big Band in his early 40’s and there he met the crew who would form a jazz quintet called, The Mezzanines. He wrote and composed half the songs on their album. Since live music venues started closing down due to noise restrictions, poker machines, pub managers who don’t pay, and finally the nail in the coffin, covid lock down, Bryce had enough and decided to quit music altogether, but there was a gaping hole in his musical soul and he found himself lost and alone. By luck he was able to install a music sequencer and taught himself how to operate it. “I collected all the songs and tunes I had written over the last 40 years and compiled them into a big folder. My new mission was to record and upload my own music for future generations, mainly my great grandkids, in case I ever have them”. Bryce’s latest album, Space Jazz, has been described as smooth jazz with a swinging big band overtone. “You are a genius”, Dennis Accountant. “So chilled out man”. John Tutor. “Very relaxing music”. Martin Artist. “I can’t believe you play all the instruments”. Gary Draftsman.
