The debut album by Buckled Shapes, ‘Make Noise Now’, is out now. Drawing upon existing sketches and shells, the eleven songs were written by Matthew in a matter of months, after which they were set to an expansive indie rock backdrop by Ben, Danny, Jamie and Matthew over an extended period in various locations around Adelaide. The resulting performances and arrangements demonstrate skill and a clever interplay between the numerous and varied components. Shoe-gazing grunge meets shiny synthetics in ‘Surface Again’. Raucous drums and fuzzed up bass juxtapose somber choirs in ‘The Pursuit’. Frenzied guitars weave and buzz all over ‘Paint By Numbers’. A waltz crashes through a wall of guitars in ‘Upturned Plans’. In digging deeper into the song foundations, the underlying music regularly welcomes twists and turns, whilst remaining unashamedly melodic and memorable.
