Originally, Patrick, David, Jesse and Daniel, young astronomers of the planet Zenn-La, made a bargain with the cosmic entity Galactus, pledging to serve as his herald in order to save their homeworld from destruction. Imbued in return with a tiny portion of Galactus' Power Cosmic, Patrick, David, Jesse and Daniel acquired great powers and a new version of their original appearance. Galactus also created instrument-like crafts — modeled on their own instruments — on which they would travel at speeds beyond that of light. Known from then on as Buried in Damascus
