The Burnie Youth Choir began in 2003 with so few children that the parents were asked to join in. The uniform consisted of jeans and any black t-shirt… Now, in 2007, the Burnie Youth Choir consists of approximately 90 children from ages 9 to 25 from all over the Northwest coast of Regional Tassie with all our previous parenting members now running the “business side”. There is now an established uniform to keep with our urban look, a printed black t-shirt with our BYC logo, jeans and black shoes, with ‘choir blue’ accessories. The choir holds events and fundraisers for the kids to get themselves out there and have some fun (which happens to be our major priority). The choir has the motto “We Just Wanna Sing”. The choir can be seen anywhere at anytime from a funeral of a much admired and respected local alderman, performing live on stage with Rob Guest and through to a 6am start in the dark for a slot on the Today Show.
