A Central Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service (CAALAS) & Desert Pea Media Collaboration KNOW YOUR RIGHTS CAALAS provides community legal education to organizations, individuals, schools and other groups throughout Central Australia. They recently teamed up with Desert Pea Media to collaborate on a unique series of legal education sessions culminating in a storytelling music video workshop at BushMob Residential Facility in Alice Springs. Indigenous young people are significantly more likely to end up in juvenile detention than non indigenous youth. This is a serious community concern for young people in the Central Desert and across Australia. A part of addressing this is to ensure better dissemination of information about the whitefella legal system and the promotion of respect for the rights of young people and healthy interactions with the law.
