Inspired by seventies punk, garage and dirty rock n roll, Cakefight is the brainchild of Andrew Porter and Vanessa Morris, which was born in May 2016. Coinciding with DIY tours of New Zealand and Australia, Cakefight self-released a noisy 26 minute assault of garage punk in the shape of a 12” LP in early 2018. The record which has been described as a "brisk and invigorating listen" (Undertheradar, NZ, February 2018) was recorded with Brooke Penrose (Saint Jude) at Captain B Studios and of course, mastered by Mikey Young. This followed their first release of a five track 7” EP in early 2017, which was recorded with Matthew Melton (Bare Wires, Warm Soda) in Austin, Texas. Cakefight have become known for their raucous and energetic live performance since their first shows and have been described to “pack an awful lot of punch into their sound with just drums, guitars and vocals” (Speaker TV, February 2017).
