Emerging from the underground scene of early ’90s Sydney, Caligula made their mark on alternative rock by blending driving guitar riffs with electronic elements. Their acclaimed cover of "Tears Of A Clown" cemented their place as favourites on Triple J and Triple M and saw them share the stage with international acts such as Depeche Mode, Pop Will Eat Itself, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, Ride, Headless Chickens, Carter USM, Scatterbrain and The Beastie Boys. After a hiatus, Caligula reignited their passion in 2018, embarking on tours with old friends Pop Will Eat Itself, The Mavis’s, and Defryme. In 2023, they joined forces with DEF FX for a sold-out national double headline tour, demonstrating their enduring appeal. Consistently renowned as a live act, Caligula continued to captivate audiences throughout 2024, performing at major festivals like Spring Loaded and appearing alongside The Machinations and Jesus Jones. The band also began releasing new singles, refining their characteristic goth groove with a contemporary edge. For over thirty years, Caligula has drawn inspiration from pioneering artists such as Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Front 242, and Skinny Puppy, forging their own unique path in the industrial and electronic rock landscape. After a 25-year hiatus from full-length albums, ARIA-nominated Caligula make a triumphant return with "Bloodlines," a powerful and atmospheric record that solidifies their status as one of Australia's most distinctive gothic rock outfits. "Bloodlines" blends Caligula’s trademark goth groove, moody electronics, and energetic rock, delving into themes of love, loss, fear, and redemption. The album reflects the emotional depth and dark romanticism of their ’90s rise, while boldly evolving their sound. Fronted by Ash Rothschild, along with founding members Jamie Fonti on keyboards/guitar and brother Sean Fonti on bass, joined by Kyle Barr on drums and guitarist Mark Tobin; Caligula delivers a collection of tracks that are both deeply personal and universally relatable, shaped by years of reflection and the creative bond that has always propelled the band. To mark the album’s release, Caligula will host two exclusive launch shows, offering fans a unique opportunity to experience their new material live, alongside classics from their acclaimed catalogue. Each event will feature special guest artists, making these performances essential for aficionados of alternative and gothic rock. With "Bloodlines," Caligula return not as a nostalgic act, but as a band renewed—powerful, relevant, and unapologetically true to themselves.
