Cannibalistic was started as a metal outlet by some of the best musicians at Goulburn's Mulwaree High. Their original name was Cannibalistic Jesus (as can be seen on the original logo) but eventually dropped it for fear of bad reactions to the religious referance. Their songwriting influences include classic thrash and death metal (such as Megadeth, Entombed, Slayer and Vader), as well as black metal and grindcore, especially bands such as Emperor and Naplam Death.
