Stemming from the vestiges of lonesome acoustic folk and awash with naturalistic voice and tone, flowers a richly imaginative lo-fi musician. James Woodberry, under the moniker of Cape Hoy!, is a Hobart native and frontman to post-punk brigade Manchester Mourning. Unlike the wiry riffs and recurrent chants indicative of the musician’s work with MM, Cape Hoy! diverts himself away from the electrical stamina of his previous work by incorporating the sounds of a hearty steal guitar and a voice high in pitch but rich in timbre to match. Maximising on unvarnished acoustic melodies, deeply personalized anecdotal lyrics and warm vocal resonance to portray his craft, Cape Hoy! is rapidly becoming known as the next coveted provocateur of lyrical story-telling within the Tasmanian capital’s vibrant independent music community.
