Melbourne musician/filmmaker Mike Russo is hearing his music with new ears. His solo project Casual Workforce sees Russo’s diverse creative skills come together. Russo creates evocative, dynamic music, with his trademark quirk and earnest atmosphere. He plays all instruments himself and enjoys musical and visual collaborations with others. Classically trained from the age of six, Russo remembers putting on lounge-room piano performances for his family, and being bribed fifty cents for daily practices. Casual Workforce launched with an alt-rock LP in 2017 called Different Sides. The ten track debut showcased Russo’s unique approach to rock music while still wearing influences on his sleeve. These days Russo is regularly playing piano to inform his next chapter of music. The instrument has heard Russo write songs from a soloists perspective, sounding an introspective tone of dark pop, more aligned with his record collection of today.
