Cheap Date are an energetic group of talented larrikins navigating their way through their own youth and the emotional chaos that comes with it. Possessing a strong handle on emotional nuance and a varied blend of musical influences, Cheap Date have been making quite a name for themselves on stages across Australia. With an image that initially screams 80’s nostalgia, the band are so much more than another whack on the overbeaten drum of sex drugs and rock and roll. A strong theme of gender equality and queer inclusiveness can be heard through leading lady Lara Dee’s eloquent songwriting. Lara Dee openly identifies as a member of the lgbtq+ community and strives strives to establish a safe space for all listeners and support anyone experiencing a similar journey to her own. Throw a queer female amongst four cis straight males and you have a recipe for…harmonious creation. That is the narrative Cheap Date are aiming to construct through music.
