CHIEF MAEZ Nigerian-Trinidadian rapper and boxer is making his solo debut in the Australian music scene with his single “On Me”. Growing up in Canberra, Chief Maez started getting involved in music from his early years in grade school choirs, although he confessed it was mostly an excuse to get extra time out of class. It wasn’t until 2015 that he first started writing in the studio with his brother and freestyling with a friend on a track that they later on performed at a Genesis Owusu show. From 2016 to 2020 Maez was part of the group “WeirdoGvng”, and now after his 2020 move to Sydney Chief Maez has decided to launch his solo career with his first single “On Me”. “On Me” is a song about “the feeling me and my friends had when we first started performing as a rapper, putting in work to get to where I wanted to be, and sharing those moments with the people, who had my back before I got to that moment…”
