Cymbidium is an Indie-alt-pop rock band from the inner west of Sydney.
Much like its namesake, Cymbidiums are known for their difficulty & unwillingness to bloom except under exacting and perfect conditions. Quite fitting for singer-songwriter Jimmy Hesford's solo project that never took off until meeting drummer Carl Hiramanek & bassist Gideon Traurig in late 2022. Cymbidiums music showcases a talent for grabbing at your emotions and tapping your feet with bittersweet melodies, ethereal harmonies, dazzling guitars and rhythmic grooves so sweet, you'll be left wondering where your heart is. Cymbidium’s second single, “ ‘Conquered‘ is a sweet admission of the inner battles that rage within someone when they’re falling in love and those millions of little anxieties & foibles that all need to be vanquished for that love to bloom. A vulnerable & desperate yet hopeful song about having someone else in your life that can fight these battles with you & love you when you’re at your lowest.” – Jimmy Hesford Following debut track ‘I’ll Be There’, ”Conquered” is another example of Cymbidium’s signature sound, showcasing the band’s talent to create dreamy and serene indie-rock which contrasts their bittersweet lyrics & melodies. Cymbidium takes influence from bands such as Real Estate and Crowded House to craft a gentle atmosphere within Conquered, leaving room to push the intensity live. With soft, swooning harmonies, energetic bass-lines that pulse and build throughout, a delicate live drum performance that remains responsive to the song’s emotionality and lead guitar melodies that guide the listener gently to the finish, Cymbidium quietly ponders if the cost of being in love is worth it.
