Daniel Dawes performed in Sydney psych-rock group The Winters for many years before releasing his first solo album Strange Things in March 2009. The Strange Things album received strong support from radio. The ABC’s Rage selected the film clip for the album’s title track as “Indie of the Week”. The album also received several favorable reviews in the press, one reviewer commenting, “there was not a single low point on the entire record” (Nick Kays, The Dwarf.com). Dawes’ second album, Battle Lines, was released via Foghorn Records on 28 March 2014. The official album showcase and launch for this release was on the 3rd April 2014 at Lizotte’s Sydney. Battle Lines as an album is essentially about the daily fight to maintain connection with whatever it is that defines us as who we are – the people in our lives and our hopes and dreams for the future. The theme of the album is about refusing to give up on a dream regardless of the obstacles and hindrances that get in the way.
