I first began to play music outside my house at around age fourteen as part of my musical education at BoysTown Engadine, N.S.W during my years of internship there (1973 -1975). While we practiced twice a week, we also marched and performed on Special Days and competed at National and State level Brass Band Competitions. One year I even got a bus trip to that years’ Salesian Eucharistic Festival (1974) in Melbourne as one of 3 tuba players in “The BoysTown Brass Band” . - playing popular tunes and military marches . . . . . and well from there, once I’d completed 4th form (Year 10), it was “Jayel” & “Presence” (1976 –1979) and endless touring with “Mad Gorilla” (1980 -1982), and then much the same with “Trader” in (1983 – 1985), until the “The Icemen” (1986), This was interrupted by my move to Melbourne mid-way thru 1986. . By the end of August of 1986 I had joined “Dirty Pool” (1986 – 1987) and we quickly became part of the ‘party band/pub band’ circuit until family commitments
