David Wildey is a Newcastle NSW based singer-songwriter, in his own words he describes his music as “crafted worlds of song”. In 2024, he placed 4th in the national Australian Songwriters Association songwriting competition. Upon learning guitar at age 14, he immediately leant his hand to songwriting and as a result of starting his approach to songwriting when young, has developed his own unique take on the craft. His unique songwriting is paired with what has been described as an iconic and resonant voice and compared to artists like Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Paul Stookey of Peter Paul and Mary fame, and folk artists of the 60’s His songs are soaked in his own unique collection of imagery that forms vivid pictures in your mind upon listening. His songs or his “worlds” as he calls them, range from two broken toys in a toy box, that complete each other by forming a whole, to a jilted lover playing she loves me, she loves me not, through to a man defiantly swimming against his struggles so that he will not let others drown in his love. These seperate and distinct worlds, are each encompassed by an overall world and theme threaded through all of Davids art and music to showcase “Life in all it’s complexity from black to white and all of its struggles and emotions, peace and insanity”. David is also an avid Artist. Having studied at the National Art School Darlinghurst and the Julian Ashton Art school at the rocks, David pairs his music and supports it with his own art and design all completed in his own unique style. “I want it to put all of myself into it, an expression of someone creating from an honest place with their own unique take on creativity, I want my music to support my art, and my art to support my music. To me the two are intertwined” You will find David playing gigs, open mic’s and busking on the streets of Newcastle, Sydney and the Central Coast of NSW. Has developed a loyal and enthusiastic cult following.
