The classical world described the guitar as an "orchestra in itself". "Often the six strings can convey more than any amount of words. I try to keep up the words but often the guitar phrases just fill ths song up and there's no more room. So there's a few instrumentals in my set." That's not to say there's no storytelling in DD's music with a repertoire containing songs on love, sex, lsd and the afterlife. Drawing on influences such as Robert Johnson, Nick Drake and the songsmiths Dylan and Townes van Zandt, DD uses his resonator, slide and Maton (and maybe occasionally a telecaster) as the bedrock of his very groove driven licks.
