It is practically impossible to listen to Dead Jerk and not think of space. Their organic-yet-otherworldly music is concocted using the perfect balance of rich, analogue instruments and the alien sounds they can produce – resulting in a kind of retrofuturism that honours pioneers like Delia Derbyshire and her legacy of proto-snyth soundscaping. As such, the band's first release – a self-produced eponymous EP – feels very much like musical cinema... a raucous, highly-detailed soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist.
