Derwents, eh.... like the pencils? Yep. While most young modern ‘punk’ bands are starting to resemble the sordid sonics of Good Charlotte and Sum 41 and other noughties no-nos, Bendigo’s DERWENTS make cassette-drenched emotional punk rock, recapturing the spirit of seminal 90s bands like Jawbreaker, Death Cab For Cutie, Something For Kate and Weezer. We’d seen the word ‘visceral’ used on countless punk press releases, but no-one in the offices of Sourgrass Recordings knew how to spell it. So you’re just have to going to listen to the EP and come up with your own adjectives - THE HOLES EP is a 21 minute adventure of refreshing noise, nerves and naivety.
