Doctrinaire is one production name used by Brisbane electronic musician/DJ, Jody Smith. Jody began as a DJ in Lismore NSW in 1988, and has since played DJ gigs from Byron Bay to Coffs Harbour to Brisbane, including private parties, raves and residencies at club venues. Jody was also the presenter of The Big Mix, a 3 hour dance music show on Saturday nights on 2NCR-FM in Lismore NSW from 1988-1992. After some early, rudimentary efforts at making electronic music, Jody seriously got into producing in 2001. Jody's love of 80's dance and electronica was evident in his early productions under the name HSP, and among his influences he cites The Human League ('Dare' was the first album he bought), New Order, Depeche Mode, The Art Of Noise, Ultravox, Severed Heads, Arthur Baker's seminal electro productions, any of Vince Clarke's projects (early Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure) and Norman Cook's cut'n'paste production style. During the early 2000's Jody also produced latin techno tracks under
