‘Dissonance’ confronts how we face the consequences that arise from holding onto two conflicting beliefs simultaneously; cognitive dissonance. One may convince themselves that a particular action – such as cheating – is immoral. Yet at the same time, they may also fail to commit to their own beliefs. Cognitive dissonance is not exclusive to physical actions. It can also arise due to personal feelings of disconnect. It can exist within an internal struggle between the body and mind. Cognitive dissonance lures us into a spiralling perpetual struggle as we attempt to consolidate with a self-identity that is true. Dominique’s latest track, ‘Dissonance’, does not only translate this intangible conflict into song but also highlights the vulnerability of becoming dissonant. Her intonations are fragile – yet they gain clarity as Dominique sings through its final choruses. She implies closure; of a final rise and fall before finally coming to terms with the truth.
