Duke Batavia the man was a Dutch-Indonesian Hawaiian crooner born in Java in 1927. Not much is known about him, but for a snatch of songs he left behind. Duke Batavia the band was formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2011, exploring music and sounds by, and inspired by the spirit of the Duke. It's a mess of early rock n roll, doo wop, gospel and folk, played by some weary indie rock travellers, mainly in pubs. It's worth the trip.
