Ed Temple is an Australian producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist based in Adelaide, and founder of Templé Musiq. He has released records on Internasjonal, Midnight Riot, Black Riot Records, Inner Tribe, Be Strong Be Free, Sosilly Records and Secrets of Sound Records. Behind the moniker is artist Ben Smith, with a love for vintage synthesisers, spring reverb, live musicians and, equally but antithetically, old drum machines. His work is driven by a lifelong pursuit: to create music that moves the body and touches the soul. Ben has warmed up for countless underground A-list artists touring Australia, including Rick Wilhite, Osunlade, Trus’me, Rahaan, Alkalino and Hidden Spheres, while leaving his mark on festivals and nightclubs across the country. In 2020, under the TEMPLE alias, Ben released music on UK imprints Midnight Riot and its more techno-focused counterpart, Black Riot Records. He later found a home on Norwegian label Internasjonal, headed by Prins Thomas, where he released the Love Machine EP in 2022. The project later evolved into Templé and now Ed Temple, alongside the launch of his own label, Templé Musiq. Its debut release, the Who You Are EP, featured Quartz Pistol and a remix from Prins Thomas. Ed Temple also performs his original music with Temple Magic Orchestra, an eight-piece live band combining a string trio, horn section, percussion, keys and dub effects. With only kicks, hats and snares used as backing tracks, the ensemble brings live house and disco to the stage in full colour. An Ed Temple DJ set is a journey through disco, Afro, jazz, techno, boogie and rare house cuts. He shifts gears effortlessly, exploring untravelled musical lands while creating an infectious connection on the dance floor, where he is not the focus, but love, unity and transcendence are the only intentions.
