The trio, consisting of Rachael Comte (vocals), Sam McAuliffe (guitar) & Matt Hayes (bass) met whilst studying music (jazz) at Monash University in Melbourne. Upon completing their studies, Rachael, Sam & Matt performed regularly throughout Melbourne in a variety of ensembles, together and independently. Having spent years performing jazz, improvised, and experimental music, guitarist Sam McAuliffe decided it was time to put together an ensemble that would provide an outlet for his folk, rock & pop influences. Late in 2013, Elliot Cline was born, a duo with McAuliffe and Comte. After recording a demo in Sam’s home in Thornbury, titled ‘From A Distance’, the duo quickly developed a following and began performing throughout Melbourne. Early in 2014, Matt Hayes joined the ensemble and Elliot Cline began a new journey as a trio.
