EMILY JANE are an original indie/pop/rock band. Co-writers Emily Hunt (UK) and Steve Askew (Newy) met in Newcastle in June 2003 and began writing together and gigging under the name STEM until January 2006. Rhythm section Tori Spooner and Matt Bulluss have joined the band along with Adam Jones on keys. EMILY JANE have recently won the ABC Newcastle Music Award for the most competitive category; Adult Contemporary, with their song, MISS YOU. They were also nominated for the Rock category with their 80’s inspired track, WAKE UP. Their music has been described as an eclectic mix of pop/rock with a soul/funk edge. Emily’s powerful blues/soul voice compliments Steve’s funky, rhythmical grooves. The versatility of the song writing team has meant their music ranges from eulogistic statements; political and socio-political themes; everyday narratives to meaningless trashy pop. As a live act, one can hear expertise, experience and professionalism in the music however, humour and enthusiasm

Bio history
Soulful and melancholic, Emily Jane’s music is reminiscent of artists like Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Keaton Henson. Centred around simplicity and vulnerability, Emily and her guitar aim to tell a story with every song. Her songs are not only a reflection of her own life, but an invitation for listeners to reflect on theirs. Currently, Emily is studying at Queensland Conservatorium’s Bachelor of Popular Music. She has played at various venues such as Hard Rock Café, The Milk Factory, Queen’s Baton Relay for the 2018 Commonwealth Games and events for Bleach Festival as well as many more around her local Gold Coast and Brisbane area.
