Sad-girl-indie singer-songwriter Emma Painter’s music is poetic yet intensely relatable, delivered through stripped-back guitar and vocals. Raised in lutruwita / Tasmania, Emma has been writing for ten years and is now stepping into her recording career, alongside playing gigs in naarm / Melbourne. Taking influence from artists such as Gretta Ray and Joni Mitchell, with lyrical inspiration from poet Sylvia Plath, Emma’s music balances strong visuals with raw emotions. As to why she writes - “I have always been an over-thinker. When I have a thought I tend to unwrap it to find out what’s at its core then follow wherever it takes me, a tendency which has often gotten me in trouble. I started writing as a way to rob my thoughts of their power and make sense of how and why I ended up where I did.”
