Eugene and the Egg

Eugene and the Egg formed in the south east suburbs of Brisbane in 1983 to play post-punk psychedelic tunes with a lyrical bent centred on stories of suburban isolation, the search for meaning and other assorted topics like the drowning of Natalie Wood. The band's original sound was driven by a punked-up, funky bass line around which wispy strands of guitar were wrapped -all washed by waves of electronic keys with a Roland drum machine (EGG) laying down the beat. Real drums were brought in 1984 and the sound of the band got just that little bit harder. The band didn't play much after 1985 (aside from getting together in 1988 to record some tracks for the Music From the State Of Corruption compilation) but did reform in 2014 and has been playing around Brisbane ever since. There's more info on the band's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/EugeneAndTheEgg/
