FITZROY emerged on the reggae music scene in the mid 90’s regularly MC’ing on the ‘Ghetto Rock’ soundsystem in West Negril Jamaica. His raw lyrical wordsmithing gained the respect of acclaimed reggae artist Lisa Danger who he collaborated with on his debut EP ‘Soul Inspiration’ at Bust Out studio in Kingston. Since moving to Australia in 2007 Fitzroy has been sharing his culture and the spirit of roots reggae on his popular radio show ‘Reggae Mixtape’ from the 2NVR radio station based in the Nambucca Valley. Fitzroy is a regular MC on the ‘Skeng Teng Hifi’ soundsystem at various Australian music events and festivals and was the front man of the well-loved Australian reggae band ‘Drama King’ for many years before going solo. Fitzroy’s new live show is a collaboration with DJ/VJ producer Fluxa. The duo combine a mash-up of yard style beats with spontaneous lyrical bursts of Jamaican MC’ing goodness. Fitzroy also sings his original songs that are dj’ed with live elements including electronic drums, synths and samples. Fitzroy’s latest album ‘Nu Roots’ is a celebration of the strength of the human spirit. After dealing with the global challenges we have all been faced with in recent years Fitzroy said that it’s important for him to lay down new roots. He hopes that the album uplifts peoples’ spirits so that everyone can come together to celebrate love and joy and send out a message of hope and unity.
