First conceived in 1996, the band started by writing instrumental tracks to pass their music exams. These early jams turned into regular rehearsals, and the foundations of 'From The Brink' began to take shape. The band continued writing music during the years after high school. There were many side bands, projects and unfulfilling musical paths that they all took on. For some reason, the only band that proved to go further than a few rehearsals or rough recordings was "The Brink." Greig, Leighton and Simon all knew there was something in the sound of From The Brink. However they needed a vocalist to compliment their musical fusion. Enter Mike Hayes. From The Brink were now comfortable with their choice for a singer. They were also content with their mixture of different styles of music, all which influenced the men at some stage during their life
