GARROTTES… When one just isn’t enough Garrottes is the fully envisioned version of Jono Barwick’s ‘I’m an old man now so I better learn how to sing and play acoustic guitar’ solo output as churned out since circa 2015. What started as a joking aside one morning that he could write a whole song in a few hours and bring it in to work that night has now become a body of work encompassing ten albums worth of mostly dark and miserable missives to depression, serial killers and depictions of fictional characters staring down the barrel of the shotgun that is life. Lyrically obtuse but with a common theme of life is futile, pictures are painted in shades of mostly black with splashes of blood red here and there to spice up the barren landscapes. Musically the band is a pastiche of influences from Descendents to Old Crow Medicine Show, Poison to Eilen Jewell, Slayer to Marty Robbins, an amalgamation of influences from a lifetime of devouring music no matter it’s direction.
